A Speechless Answer

     “Not to be insensitive, but you aren’t getting any younger.” I paused for her reaction and a reserved moment in time passed by. I could see a variety of memories go through my mother’s dark brown eyes. In that short time, I knew the way she felt when her first love kissed her, the sorrow of losing her grandparents, and the pain and joy of all three of her natural births. Little did I know, so much of life could pass by in a twinkle of her eye.  My mother answered, “I spoke those same words twenty years ago to my mother.” She paused, and in that breath several roads laid ahead of my feet. She quietly whispered, “Which one will you take?”
