The little boy in this story likes attention. He likes attention so much that he lies to have it, repeatedly. He yells that there is a wolf, when there really is no wolf. He is not concerned with inconveniencing anyone, so long as he is at the center of attention. At the end of the story, when there really was a wolf, he must have regretted telling lies, because no one came to help him that time.
