John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” On a cold October day three of my friends decided to go to a house party. Scotty, B-easy and Eric were like the three Musketeers. Scotty was the runt of the bunch but had the most fight. B-easy was like a Chiwawa, he was all noise and broken promises. Eric was the quiet dreamer. Eric looked scary, but he could not fight his way out of a wet paper bug. It was around eleven o’clock at night when they made it to the party. When they got there Eric had bumped into some guys he had beef with awhile back and things from that point on felt uncomfortable. Thirty minutes into the party a hostile group of guys approached Eric when he got separated from the group and started to harass him. Eric was not a fighter so he remained quiet as the angry pack jeered at him. A minute later the barbaric group began to beat Eric down. Scotty and B-easy were outside when they heard the commotion. Scotty ran inside to see Eric bleeding on the ground with a gun pointed at his back .Scotty altruistically jump on the guy that was holding the pistol to divert his attention away from Eric. B-easy dragged Erica form the brawl as Scotty and the guy jostled for the pistol. The firearm began to waive out of control causing a stampede. A few seconds into the wrestling match the pistol went off. Scotty immediately run but did not make it far. Forty yards from the initial quarrel, Scotty collapsed in pain. He realized he was shot and began to franticly call for help. B-easy found Scotty on the ground and called the cops. The twenty five caliber bullet had pierced his leg and bounced off his thigh bone into his belly where it put 22 holes in his stomach. Scotty spent a week in the intensive care unit and a month in the hospital. He also has a scar in the middle of his belly from his chest to his waist line that serves as a consist reminder of day. I told him he could have got killed and asked him why did he do it and he replied, “That is what friends do.” Scotty is an exemplar of a true friend.
